Nowadays IT-environments, software systems, and server platforms must comply with a various requirements. The high availability of both applications and data ranks first. However, many file server collect an extensive amount of unstructured data, stored and managed in group-based file structures with many parts often in high redundancy. For permanently growing databases the time required for backup and access are becoming more and more critical.

COI-BusinessArchive for file servers, a solution by COI, data is migrated (including the structures) to a cost-effective storage environment. Thus, the load on the file servers is reduced, redundant data is omitted and backups are optimized.

The transfer of both data and structures happens undetected. The file server´s directory structure remains untouched, data is moved in the background and replaced by links. Users can thus conveniently work in their usual structures and access the data in the archive by reference.

Storage of the data is managed by services: assigned file server structure are taken over, references defined, and data stored – automatically classified – in COI-BusinessFlow Xtrend, all in timed intervals.
